Fear & Loathing - Data Visualization
For a graphics class, I was assigned with creating a storytelling piece–a movie poster which breaks down and analyzes a film using both qualitative and quantitative data analysis. I chose Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a film that I appreciate a great deal and have viewed many times (I am also a fan of Hunter S. Thompson and the book which the movie was based off of). With the film being heavily centered around drug use, I used this as the focus of my analysis. The analysis includes the types and quantities of drugs used, relative danger, bodily effects, observed behaviors, mise-en-scene and film aesthetic. The film was closely studied in order to capture the data required for this analysis. The visual identity of the piece is inspired by the aesthetic of the film, 1970s design, and distortion synonymous with drug culture. It features several illustrations that I created as well as quotes and references to the movie. The poster is meant to cover the length of a wall, and in person it measures approximately 6 feet tall.
